President Of The Government Of Catalonia
Carles Puigdemont Casamajó studied Catalan Philology in the University of Girona,
then followed a career in journalism and
became editor-in-chief and director of Catalonia Today, a daily issued newspaper in English.
In 2006 he was elected Member of
the Parliament of Catalonia and chaired the Culture and Language Commission along
being a member of the Foreign and Eu Action, Youth Policy and Education commissions.
In 2011 he was elected Mayor of Girona,
the first non-socialist to win a mayoral election
in the country’s democratic era. In his first term
he was member of the Executive Committee
of the Association of Municipalities for Independence, chairman of the Committee
for Cultural-Historical Heritage, President
of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities
and Provinces and Vice-President of
the Catalan Association of Municipalities.
In 2015 he was re-elected as Mayor
and served as President of the Association
of Municipalities for Independence
from July 2015 until January 2016.
On January 12th, he was officially sworn in
as the 130th President of the Government of Catalonia.
